"Bomb Jack"
(Elite)

Description:
Bombjack was converted
to speccy from the Arcade Version in 1985 by Elite
from Tekhan's 1984 arcade. Essentially a platform/arcade,
yet original in its design, the conversion was a success
and the solid playability secured its addictive qualities,
making Bomb Jack a speccy hit.
Object:
Bombjack must collect all the
bombs on each screen before progressing to the next
level by jumping and controlling your decent. During
this time, various enemies are wandering about and
getting in your way. Touching them means a loss of
life. Collect different spinning dics for bonus and
extra lifes. Collect the 'P' to freeze all enemies
temporarily and kill them.
Collect the flashing bombs in sequence
to receive a super flashing bomb bonus at the end
of each level.

Criticism:
A
well converted arcade classic. The levels have been
converted well and animation is good. The backgrounds
are excellent and some of the monocolour screens don't
look any worse for it- understandable due to limitations
and colour clash issues.
Sound & Graphics:
Sound is well produced and works
well in each of the levels- though limited.
Most screens are duo-tone, however
the screenshot above (Castle level) is a nice example
of the exception. Superbly drawn and an excellent
use of colour in this level.
It's easy to see that a considerable
amount of time was taken in creating the bacdrops
for each of the levels. The objects are as good as
can be expected and are mostly monotone in order to
avoid the inevitable colour-clash.
